App barely worth it, journalism better

The app crashes regularly. Technical support does not answer emails. No login data made available for digital account. Tech support does not answer. Cannot figure out how to unsubscribe. Tech support does not answer emails. I can find 95% of content from other online sources, many times one or two days earlier. Too bad, I originally studied to be a print journalist. I understand the diminisioning returns for print editions in the digital age. But the Chronicle app itself is questionable. I cannot decide between one and two stars.

Hate the ads, font too big, cluttered

Now that the major newspapers are all starting to charge for their iPad apps Im going to whittle down to 1 paid app and it certainly wont be this one. So clutttered, so many windows, not responsive to swipes. It looks like 6 MS Windows resized to fit on a small screen. I detest paying for a subscription only to have to endure more ads.

Everything you want

Its a great app ... One of the best newspaper apps out there.

Excellent

Intuitive, satisfying read. will be subscribing!

Almost worthless

What a horrible app! Compared to the New York Times, this is awfully slow to download, horrible to navigate, and frankly it is so bad, it makes trying to read the Chronicle such a terrible experience, its not worth trying. Chronicle people, try some other newspaper apps and learn how to develop an app that works.

Not newsworthy

free trial was about to run out so i trashed it, not much worth reading sad to say.

Convenient read

I liked this app.! Perfect for a visitor like me to San Fran. Sure the download & go option took a bit to happen(5-10min)but once finished I was reading all day throughout my many tours & travels. Well written relevant articles, love how you can scroll easily from section to section, with sub- headings on the left side, so I can choose which to read. Great app. Give this a chance, you will enjoy!

Good but could be great

Not intuitive, but once learned, easy to navigate. Pop up ads are irritating! Moving the blogs to the middle of the sections a not very transparent approach to create interest and readers where I suspect there is none. A little buggy. All minor fixes; then its 5 star.

San Francisco Chronicle

Impressive and intuitevly clear way of presenting a newspaper with the help of new technologies. Super! Five stars without any doubt!

The worst

Of all of the apps that I have used over the past several years, this one is the worst. I still have it because I need a source of local information, and occasionally the article some selves are very good. That is especially true in the sports section. Technically it is just awful. Some mornings I cant open it and I actually have to shut off my computer to get back on and open it. Articles freeze in mid – read. As another reviewer pointed out, articles can last on the front page for days making it impossible to figure out what to do and what isnt. It makes us think that the Chronicle is trying to discourage its electronic readers enough they will go back to the print version.

Sf Chronicle for iPad app

I am rewriting my review. I had previously given this app 1 star (because 0 star was not an option). It is now at the end of January, 2016 and I find the app greatly improved. The format has not changed (Im getting used to it) but the performance of the app has greatly Improved! It loads within seconds instead of minutes. Someone has been tweaking it. Nice work. Revision October, 2016: Back to slow. Ive learned to open the app and make my coffee while I wait for it to boot up. I wish there was another way to get the Chronicle besides paper.

Worst newspaper app ever

If the New York Times can do this, why cant the SF Chronicle?

Like the app, but please fix the crashes

The redesigned app works well. I now like the way the sections are edited. However, the crashes and freezes just keep occurring. They happen almost daily. In fact, it just crashed again!

Clunky

This is really an inferior app. It loads slowly, the ads at the bottom of the page cover the copy, it has annoying interstitial ads that interrupt your reading, it is a memory hog, and it is buggy. It sorely pales in comparison to the New York Times app. They should scrap it and start again.

Review

The worst. Take forever to open. Never know if it is yesterdays news or todays Miss half of the news Read the NYTimes to see a good site

Slow

Very slow to boot up for almost any story or section, even with fast broadband speeds at my end.

Excellent news app

All your favorite columnists and features — plus interactive projects and special reports — all in the palm of you hand!!!

Chron new app terrible

Please bring back the ability to see all dates on articles & choose the edition. The new app features very stale content & is not fun to use. Now using iPad chronicle app is a chore. It is also very buggy. Half the articles crash & I have to restart the app.

Mind boggingly awful

Horrible, just horrible. Crashes constantly, doesnt launch half the time, shockingly awful UI....I just cant believe anyone would look at this app and decide to ship it to users. If I didnt want to read this particular group of writers, Id never use it. As it is, Im now seriously considering going back to the print version or only reading SF Gate.

Very buggy

Doesnt launch right. Its full of bugs and is frustrating to use.
